The serial number given by Heritage Auctions – 92487 – indicates that this guitar was shipped in 1935. However, the combination of features – large bound f-holes, a Varitone tailpiece and Grover Imperial tuners – suggest that it was in fact shipped in late 1930s. Joe Spann adds: “According to the Gibson shipping ledgers serial number 92487 was an L-4 model acoustic arch top guitar shipped on December 5, 1935. It was part of a group of 15 L-4 models with consecutive serial numbers all shipped within a week of one another. Definitely not an L-5 model.”
