The script ‘Gibson’ logo and 19 fret fingerboard with a square end are features that first appeared in the early 1930s leading us to suggest that L-5 serial number 82433 was re-necked in the mid 1930s. The guitar was likely refinished at the same time.

Joe Spann confirms L-5 serial number:82433 was returned to the factory for repairs and subsequently shipped back to Salters Music Shoppe of Wilmington, Delaware on Monday, 23 Nov 1936.

“I bought the guitar in Knowles Music in Wilmington, DE, around 1965. I still have the original tuners.” Says current owner Jeffrey Eaton.
